It's a great way to catch up with real friends, far and wide. It also provides a way to keep up with our new "friends." We can also listen in on conversations carried on in the ether world that are not our own. In that way, Facebook can become quite voyeuristic.

This morning I've been "eavesdropping" on a conservation between a friend and one of his so-called friends. The latter is accusing the former of being either theologically inconsistent at best or an outright liar at worst because he claims to be evangelistic. The accuser's concern, so it seems, is that the defendant apparently holds to a theological position that allegedly doesn't believe in evangelism.

The unspoken element, at least insofar as I've been able to see from the vantage point of an outsider, is that the plaintiff assumes that he, because of his theological presuppositions, must be the more evangelistic of the two.

What we have here is a classic "us versus them" donnybrook with evangelism as the measuring stick of theological correctness. He who is the most evangelistic must be right.

Ironically, most of the theological positions invoked in these kinds of debates have every reason to be the "most evangelistic" position. Consider a few (in overly simplistic terms):

Calvinists ought to be the most evangelistic. Calvinists believe that it is God's sovereignty that determines who will be saved and when. Calvinists believe that God's sovereignty ensures that even their most flawed evangelistic efforts can be used for eternal good. Calvinists ought to be the most evangelistic.

The same can be said of Arminians. Arminians argue that human responsibility demands that the human will must be absolutely free before, during, and after salvation for one's faith to be valid and praiseworthy. Therefore, they contend that the eternal fate of others' souls depend on the Christian's faithfulness in evangelism. That said, Arminians ought to be the most evangelistic.

This debate extends to discussions of the end times as well. Those who hold to a postmillennial view, that Christ will return at the end of time once His kingdom has enveloped the earth, ought to be the most evangelistic.

Dispensationalists ought to be the most evangelistic. They believe that Christ won't return to establish His kingdom until the world has been evangelized.

Conservatives ought to be the most evangelistic. They believe in a literal hell. They're afraid their friends and loved ones are heading there without Christ.

Likewise, liberals ought to be the most evangelistic. The world will be a better place, they contend, when we all embrace Jesus' message of universal love and self-sacrifice.

On and on, we could go. Hardly a theological position in the Christian world can be found that shouldn't be the most evangelistic, if the proponents of said systems were theologically consistent. The fact of the matter, however, is that most of us aren't consistent. We hold to positions that demand that we be the most evangelistic. But, since we aren't, we attack others who are, questioning their methods, their message, and their motivation.

Instead of comparing ourselves according to our theological gurus, let's compare ourselves to the biblical standard. According to Scripture, Christians ought to be the most evangelistic. We have been snatched from the teeth of death. We have been reconciled with our one time enemy. We have been made children of God. We've got a great message because we've got a great Savior. We've got no reason to be silent about it. We don't have a choice in the matter. Christ demands that all Christians be the most evangelistic.

9 Safety tips for women

Obama’s order gives the group the authority to avoid Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests — which means this foreign law enforcement organization can operate free of an important safeguard against governmental abuse. “Property and assets,” including the organization’s records, cannot be searched or seized. Their physical locations and records are now immune from U.S. legal or investigative authorities.

If the president of the United States has an aboveboard reason for making a foreign law enforcement agency exempt from American laws on American soil, it wasn’t shared by the White House.

Andy McCarthy, former assistant United States attorney for the Southern District of New York and senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, notes at National Review that the limitations that Obama removed are “what prevents law-enforcement and its controlling government authority from becoming tyrannical.”

A paragraph later, McCarthy describes Obama’s actions in the starkest of terms:

This international police force (whose U.S. headquarters is in the Justice Department in Washington) will be unrestrained by the U.S. Constitution and American law while it operates in the United States and affects both Americans and American interests outside the United States.

Some bloggers covering this story are noting that the law enforcement agency to which Obama has extended such extraordinary powers to has had a dismal past.

INTERPOL’s senior leadership was flush with Nazis from the late 1930s all the way into the 1970s. That fact allowed, going Godwin isn’t necessarily relevant to today’s organization. Khoo Boon Hui of Singapore is the current president of the organization, and the current secretary general is American Ronald Noble. Noble is perhaps best known in America for overseeing the Treasury Department’s review of the disastrous 1993 raid and siege of a Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas, that left nearly 80 people dead. Noble had cautioned against the initial raid plan as being too dangerous, but the lack of any significant ramifications for federal officials that approved of the raid and allegations of a cover-up have inspired conspiracy theorists to derisively dub Noble “the Enforcer.”

But INTERPOL’s past isn’t what concerns us at this moment. Its current actions and the actions of our president are those that we question.

With the flourish of a pen and no warning at all, Barack Obama surrendered American sovereignty to an international force with a checkered past. To what end?

The consensus opinion among those commenting on this development is that the most radical president in American history seems to be intent on submitting American citizens to the whims of the International Criminal Court (ICC). Previous administrations have been very leery of signing onto agreements that would make citizens susceptible to the ICC, due to the possibility that U.S. servicemen could be dragged into show war crimes trials. Such events are obviously heavily politicized, and demands for war crimes arrests can come from any government, even those that sponsor terrorism or genocide themselves.

No finer point can be made about the endemic problems of the INTERPOL/ICC than that made by a recent diplomatic incident that erupted in Great Britain, where an Israeli government official had to cancel travel plans to England because of an arrest warrant issued by an English judge — because of Iranian charges of Israeli war crimes in Gaza. The brief but intense conflict was one Iran helped instigate, as the Persians supplied the terrorists in Gaza with the rockets they used against Israeli civilians, triggering an inevitable Israeli response.

If President Obama and his radical allies in the Democratic leadership have their way, American soldiers could presumably be brought up on charges as war criminals by enemy nations and marked for arrest and deportation by an international police force on American soil. They would face charges in a foreign land without the constitutional protections they fought and bled to protect. The White House seems to be on the bewildering path of giving al-Qaeda terrorists who murder innocent women and children more legal protection than the very soldiers that risk their lives trying to bring terrorists to justice. The asinine court-martial charges being brought against three Navy SEALs based upon the word of a terrorist they captured suddenly make a sickening kind of sense.

It also stands to reason that Obama’s seeming willingness to put American soldiers’ lives in the hands of a corrupt international community could also be brought to bear against his political enemies. Foreign investigators of dubious intent, and our own left-wing extremists, have long branded officials of the previous administration “war criminals” for actions they’d taken in the war on terror. It is entirely conceivable — perhaps even likely — that these same organizations and enemy governments that went after 25 Israeli government officials through INTERPOL and the ICC would quickly move to indict a wish list of current and former U.S. government officials for alleged “war crimes.” Former President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney would obviously be at the top of such a list of politically motivated suspects, but such a list could just as easily include General David Petraeus, Defense Secretary Robert Gates, congressmen, and senators.

As the Iranian gambit has shown, Obama’s bizarre assault on U.S. sovereignty could have disastrous repercussions. We can only hope that his fetish for weakening this nation can be stopped before American politicians and servicemen are made pawns by our enemies.

Merry Christmas to all

“I am not alone at all, I thought. I was never alone at all. And that, of course, is the message of
Christmas. We are never alone. Not when the night is darkest, the wind coldest, the world
seemingly most indifferent. For this is still the time God chooses.”
Taylor Caldwell

President Hoover wrote in 1932: "Your CHRISTMAS Service held each year at the foot of a living tree which was alive at the time of the birth of Christ..should be continued as a further symbol of the unbroken chain of life leading back to this great moment in the spiritual life of mankind." President Eisenhower remarked in 1960: "Through the ages men have felt the uplift of the spirit of CHRISTMAS. We commemorate the birth of the Christ Child by...giving expression to our gratitude for the great things that His coming has brought about in the world." President Carter commented in 1977: "CHRISTMAS has a special meaning for those of us who are Christians, those of us who believe in Christ, those of us who know that almost 2,000 years ago, the Son of Peace was born." President Reagan stated in 1983: "CHRISTMAS is a time...to open our hearts to...millions forbidden the freedom to worship a God who so loved the world that He gave us the birth of the Christ Child so that we might learn to love." Reagan continued: "The message of Jesus is one of hope and joy. I know there are those who recognize CHRISTMAS DAY as the birthday of a wise teacher...then there are others of us who believe that he was the Son of God, that he was divine."

A Tale of Hope, Change, Deep Pockets and Open Hands

Elected on a pledge to deny Beltway lobbyists the undue influence they have previously been afforded, President Barack Obama’s inaugural year in office is on pace to be the most lucrative yet for influential K Street lobbyists.

According to figures collected by Politico, Washington’s influence peddlers will likely shatter last year’s record of $3.3 billion spent on lobbying Congress and the White House.

President Obama’s record is one of soaring rhetoric but compromised values. When push comes to shove, shove had better be prepared to contribute significant sums of money.

Early in his administration, Obama was forced to develop a mechanism to allow exceptions for “uniquely qualified individuals” under his “no lobbyists” dicta which qualified roughly 11 percent of President Obama’s senior staff–who were federally registered lobbyists in the last 5 years–to serve. And now, nearly one year and $3 billion later, Obama will again answer for his sheer ambivalence to allowing lobbyists the opportunity to run Washington.

“It is the most active time that I have ever seen in the advocacy business — from 1973 on,” James Thurber, director of American University’s Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies, said of Washington’s influence industry in the Obama era of shallow transparency.

President Obama’s commitment to any issue is directly proportional to the amount with which lobbyists can pad his campaign coffers. And what’s worse, Democratic members of Congress are following Obama’s example.

According to the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics’ website OpenSecrets.org, the health care sector has to-date awarded Democrats over $9 million in campaign contributions, with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid taking the lion’s share.

Why, after hedging on a variety of Democratic campaign staples including Iraq, the public option and LGBT equality, would Obama hold firm on his promise to deny special-interest brokers a seat at the table?

Influence means money, and money in politics virtually ensures reelection.
“You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by encouraging class hatred. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn. You cannot build character and courage by taking away man’s initiative and independence. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should be doing for themselves.” Abraham Lincoln

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercis

Newly independent, the thirteen States were concerned their new government may become too powerful, as King George's was. Regarding this, Thomas Jefferson wrote to Samuel Miller, January 23, 1808: "I consider the government of the US. as interdicted by the Constitution from intermeddling with religious institutions, their doctrines, discipline, or exercises. This results not only from the provision that no law shall be made respecting the establishment or free exercise of religion, but from that also which reserves to the states the powers not delegated to the U.S." Jefferson continued: "Every religious society has a right to determine for itself the times for these exercises, and the objects proper for them, according to their own particular tenets."

Truth is Falling In The Street and Justice can not be heard

My text today is (Isaiah 59: 1-14)

I am convinced that with every crisis, with every crossroad a nation faces, there is ether more chaos or massive correction, bad critics or a brilliant cure. America is in a crisis and stands at a decisive crossroad. And the next few choices she makes – will determine her destiny!

If America ends up in the graveyard of civilizations, it will be of her own doing! There will be no one to blame but the people that make up this once blessed nation!

Psalm 33:12 “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.”

Friends, mark my words, if substantial change does not happen in the years to come, we will face calamity, terrorism, natural disasters and anarchy like we have never before seen in the history of this nation! But the
sad part to this scenario is - if we ever reach the pit of despair and we pray, pray, pray – there just might not be an answer from heaven!

(1 Samuel 8:18) “When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, and the Lord will not answer you in that day.” NIV

The only cure for the crookedness, the craziness, the chaos and the confusion in America is the cross! And the key is – every Christian and every church needs to depend on the old rugged cross as the only beacon of light in these dark days!

James Garfield was a lay preacher and principal of a Christian college. In l880, he was elected president of the United States, but served only six months in office.

A lawyer named Charles Guiteau became infuriated when his application to be the U. S. ambassador to France was denied. Guiteau believed that God had ordered him to kill the President. Guiteau stalked the President for several days. On July 2, 1881, Garfield arrived at the Washington railroad depot - Guiteau was hiding in the station and fired two shots at President Garfield. One bullet grazed his arm but the other one lodged somewhere inside the President’s body.

President Garfield was rushed to the White House, having never lost consciousness. For the next 80 days, 16 doctors were consulted regarding the President’s condition.

The first doctor to treat President Garfield, Willard Bliss, stuck a non-sterile finger into the wound (sterilization
had been preached, but not widely practiced at the time). He followed this by inserting a non-sterile probing instrument to find the bullet. Bliss never found the bullet, but the false passage that he dug out confused later physicians as to the bullet’s actual path. As a result, they concluded that the bullet had penetrated the liver and therefore surgery would be of no help. The President would surely die quickly as a result. Of course, they were wrong.

Then the army surgeon general stuck his unwashed finger into the wound and dug as deep as he could. This was followed by the navy surgeon general who searched with his finger so deeply that this time he really did puncture the liver. His conclusion: the President would die within 24 hours. But, Garfield didn’t die the next day.

In an effort to find the bullet, Alexander Graham Bell rigged up a metal detector to help find the bullet. After several passes, Bell said he had located the bullet. It was much deeper than was originally thought. With Garfield’s condition growing steadily worse, doctors decided to cut him open to remove the slug – but it was not found. What Bell had actually located was a metal spring under the mattress!

In the end, they managed to take a 3 inch wound and turn it into a 20 inch canal that was now heavily infected, oozed more and more pus with each passing day. The deep wound with its massive infection, coupled with blood poisoning from the bullet, caused the President’s heart to weaken.

President Garfield had a massive heart attack several days later, and on September 19th, 1881, President James Garfield finally passed away.

Why did President James Garfield die? At the autopsy, examiners determined that the bullet had lodged itself
some four inches from the spine in a protective cavity. Their conclusion? The president would have survived if the doctors had left him alone.

Folks - America has a large wound with a massive infection and everyday we have social engineers sticking their dirty philosophy into her wound, we have social ethicists wiping their demonic peroxide into her wound, we have social elitist pouring their deadly potion into her wound – America is getting sicker everyday because she lacks the right wisdom, knowledge and truth applied to her wound! Why nor leave what our Founding Fathers started 233 years ago alone?…

Isaiah states 2 sins of his day and they also parallel our day:

1. Bloody Hands. Vs. 3a

In America, we are swimming in a pool of blood! The holocaust of over 50 million unborn babies in America since 1973 – that over 1 million every year! 65 million worldwide! And the Kenyan and his cronies are not yet satisfied he wants more using your hard earned tax dollars. But honestly how pro-choice is America really?

I take you to the ruins of Carthage, North Africa. In its pinnacle Carthage was, “The queen and mother of all cities in Africa, the eternal rival of Rome.” She was first in power, first in prestige and first in prosperity. At one point Carthage wanted for nothing, and was so advanced in education, military, commerce, judges and lawyers. Sound familiar?

But then…historian Jim Black in his book “When Nations Die” writes, “Seething with every kind of wickedness, thronging with iniquities, full of riches, but fuller with sins, where men surpass one another in the vileness of their evil passions strong among themselves for supremacy in greed and impurity, others enfeebled with wine or gluttony, others crowned with flowers of reeking in perfumes… it is true, but everyone was drunk in sin.”

“And then there were the ornately carved funeral monuments some of which depicted scenes of infant sacrifices,
were set up in the cemeteries and sacred precincts of the city to acknowledge the blood offerings made to the goddess in exchanged for her blessings.”

“I remember visiting the cemeteries and seeing the tiny stone coffins of infants who were murdered and burned as
sacrificed to the pagan goddess. The sight of thousands of these coffins lined up, row after row was chilling. 20 years after my first visit, I still remember the sense of sorrow I felt then. I recall wondering what horrors the mothers and fathers of all those innocent victims must have endured at the hands of their demon gods.”

We must ask our selves, how is the murder of 50 million innocent aborted children any different? Isn’t abortion our culture’s sacrifice to the gods of “choice”, greed, convenience and materialism?”

The violence of our day has far surpassed Noah’s, King Herod’s and Hitler’s! America’s politicians peddle and parade their pro-choice platform as if it’s the ultimate prize for America!

Moses told Israel just before his death, Deuteronomy 30:19 “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses, therefore choose life, that you and your children may live.”

2. Lying Lips. Vs. 3b

Sociologists say it’s no big deal to lie and cheat - if it doesn’t hurt anyone! From the classroom to the bedroom – cheating and lying is almost normal in order to function in this society of ours! Over the last 10 years we’ve
had to endure the ridiculous debate about public and private morality! Folks, the standards are no different at home or at the job! If a man cheats on his wife with a bimbo – I wouldn’t trust him to run the School house, Church house or any part of our Govt.

For that matter – it’s a sad day in America when public approval validates wrong behavior!

Chuck Colson writes, “Societies are tragically vulnerable when the men and women who compose them lack character. A nation or a culture cannot endure for long unless it is undergirded by common values such as
valor, respect for others and for the law; it cannot stand unless it is populated by people who will act on motives superior to their own immediate interests.”

Isaiah 5:20 “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness.”

Ecclesiastes 10:1 “Dead flies in perfume makes all of it stink.”

Folks, something is beginning to stink in America!

So what brought this on? Americans Are Daily Experiencing:

a. A Diet of Deception. Vs. 5a

The people’s sins are compared to a viper’s egg! The pagan philosophies of Isaiah’s day are the same hatched eggs we are being fed everyday! And they are hatched in hell’s incubators.

We are being fed a snake-egg diet! Humanism, materialism, relativism, liberalism and Darwinism are all wrapped up in devilish deception!

And Satan himself is the grand daddy serpent of them all! Think about this…a teen age girl cannot get an aspirin at school without her parents consent, but she can get condoms and abortion counseling without her parents
knowing it! That’s deception! We’ve gone morally mad on Main Street!

The great wisdom that built this nation is now openly laughed at in every walk of life! I dare you to just try and introduce creation in the classrooms of America!

BUT NOTICE… Verse 5b: crush them but it doesn’t kill them – it only produces more snakes!

b. A Web of Wickedness. Vs. 5b

Israel’s sin left them living in a web of wickedness! The nation was being poisoned everyday! Satan is still poisoning the well of righteousness in America!

Pornography is the #1 internet business in America! Over 1 million sites on the World Wide Web!

In the NYC School District, there is a textbook used in every high school and it says, “Pre-marital sexual intercourse is acceptable for any sexual orientation, if they are involved in a stable loving relationship.” - Harcourt School Publishers You know you are living in an age of wickedness when we adopt (Judges 17:6) “…everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”

A professor in a world-acclaimed medical school once posed this medical situation to his students: “Here’s the family history: The father has syphilis. The mother has TB. They already have had four children. The first is blind. The second had died. The third is deaf. The fourth has TB. Now the mother is pregnant again, The parents come to you for advice. They are willing to have an abortion, if you decide they should. What do you say?” The students gave various individual opinions, and then the professor asked them to break into small groups for "consultation." All of the groups came back to report that they would recommend abortion. “Congratulations,” the professor said, “You just took the life of Beethoven!”

Former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor said from the bench in a case concerning decency, “The evolving standards of decency mark the progress of a maturing society.”

c. The Trashing of Truth. Vs. 12-14

Notice there’s a traffic jam in the streets! Justice and equity can’t get through the streets any more because truth has fallen!!

What has caused truth to fall? Truth has been knocked down by doctors of philosophy, tripped up by dishonest
politicians and chloroformed by liberal preachers peddling poison from their pulpits!

I firmly believe that we can re-capture the airwaves of information, and step back into the dialogue of ideas and
it’s just the right time. I even think the world is open to fresh ideas and fresh dialogues! By re-engaging we can as Christians take the marketplace of modernism and turn it into a marketplace of meaning again!

Why did God give us a Bible? So we can know the word of truth. Why did God send the Holy Spirit? So we can experience the Spirit of truth. Why did God give us the church? So we could be the “pillar and ground of truth”. Why did God give us Jesus? So every one can know the way, the truth and the life!

Truth is the only tool that can set someone free and set a society free from a diet of deception, a web of wickedness and from trashing the truth! Liberalism only binds up a nation in snake eggs and spider webs, and then puts up road blocks to stop truth from marching on!

Listen, we need something that can slay the snake and destroy the spider – and its truth! All of us in America have to lift her up again while we still have time and we still have a voice!

With truth we can preach, teach and bleach America clean again! Proverbs 23:23 “Buy the truth and sell it not.”

Dante said, “The hottest place in hell is reserved for those who remain neutral in times of crisis.”

You may be saying, I’m not neutral in this moral crisis!” You may not be, but someone is!

Get this: In America we have about 7 million humanists and about 180 million Christians – someone’s neutral! We should not be losing these battles!

Fredrick Nietzsche a 19th century challenged the foundations of Christianity and traditional morality. He said, “God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him.”
OH REALLY?

Janet Paschal, a wonderful gospel singer wrote a song that includes these words…

“They said it wouldn’t last
Said God’s word would pass away into mere history
They thought the church He built would end
Replaced by modern times and trends
But countless generations proved again

His truth keeps on marching
On a million Sunday mornings in a million little towns
Through a hungry little village in a distant foreign land
And in the pew when someone stands to testify again
His truth keeps marching on!”

My friends, my brothers and sisters, my dearly beloved now is not the time to be sitting on the sidelines or in the stands cheering for our favorite team there is to much at stake if these are the last days then we need to stop looking in the sky and get busy, Christ says he will come when we least expect it not while everyone is looking for his return "he will come like a thief in the night" and we need to run the race that is set before us (Heb. 12: 1) Wherefore seeing we are also compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily besets us, and let us run with patience the race that is before us....

Let His truth keep marching on

The Strong man in Christ

Others in our churches do something for Christ, and know that they are alive, but their whole spiritual system is relaxed. If they take up the hammer and work for God, they strike such feeble blows that the nails do not know it. If they take the spade in their hand to dig in the Master’s vineyard, the weeds laugh them to scorn. They are so exceedingly feeble, and generally so changeable, so fond of new work, and of running after this and that, that they are of little or no real service to the church.

But the strong man in Christ Jesus is one who, if he fights, dashes to pieces the helmet of his foe; and if he wields the sling and the stone, takes care that the stone shall be sent with force enough to go through Goliath’s skull. He is a man who, if he prays, makes the gates of heaven shake and the vaults of heaven to ring. He is a man who, when he pleads with sinners, pleads all over - hands and face, and every muscle revealing his earnestness.... He feels that if religion be worth anything it is worth everything, and he throws his whole being into it - body, soul, and spirit, ardently and to the utmost pitch of energy, being given up to the Master’s cause.

From a sermon entitled "Unto You, Young Men," delivered May 13, 1868 (Charles H. Spurgeon)

THE LAW IS THE LAW!

<span style="font-family: 'Arial Black','sans-serif';
Let's see that it does.

The untouchables “Homosexuality Part 3”

Well today I want to wrap up our short series on homosexuality. If you were with us 2 weeks ago, you’d remember that we talked about the fact that the Bible does condemn homosexuality as sin. But it is not any
worse or better than any other sin you would care to or not care to name. The fact is that in God’s eyes, sin is sin and we are all sinners and therefore we are all condemned. It is rather stupid, really, of us to try to justify our sins as being better than anyone else’s when God says that he will condemn us for even just one sin. I mean, what are we going to gain by trying to gain – a lesser condemnation? God says that committing just one sin is all the reason he needs to lock us up in hell forever. We need therefore, to take up God’s cause and condemn all sin as wrong and damaging.

But while we condemn all sin as wrong, we need to put away our judge’s wigs and gavels when we come to
people. We have no right to judge people. Only God can judge people for their sin. What are we to do then? We need to accept others in grace and with compassion – knowing that we are sinful just like them and destined to the judgment of God unless we receive the forgiveness that is available in Jesus. Many homosexuals come from broken homes and it is love not condemnation that they need, the latter will only drive them further away..

Last week we began to look at some of the myths surrounding homosexuality.

We looked firstly at the myth that homosexuality is common and therefore normal. In fact, only 1.2% of Australians are homosexual according to a 2003 study. This means that although they are entitled to have a voice
in society, they can not be allowed to dictate what is normal or acceptable or right. Here in the U.S. they run between 2.8 to 4% depending on where you look

The second myth we looked at was that homosexuality is genetic. We looked at a couple of famous scientific
studies and saw that while there was some interesting data there, it was far from conclusive and even indicated that homosexuality was clearly not genetic. The best understanding seems to be that some people can have a genetic pre-disposition to homosexuality which makes them more prone to choosing that lifestyle, but there are always other factors which will cause to them adopting this lifestyle – these will including environmental factors and also their own responses. We looked at some of the environmental factors which commonly were found to have contributed to the development of a homosexual and one of the important ones identified is a damaged relationship with either the same-sex parent of same-sex peer group. What this indicates to us is that ministry to children and youth is incredibly vital in the development of their sexuality. By providing good same-sex role models to our children and youth, we minimize the likelihood of them falling prey to a damaged sexuality.

Today I want to consider 3 more myths

 - Myth 3: It is unreasonable to expect Homosexuals to remain sexually pure, so it is okay to engage in homosexual sex.

Before I begin, I want to define what I mean by sexually pure. Actually, it is not my definition but God’s. God says that any sex outside of the heterosexual marriage relationship is wrong. So staying sexually pure is not engaging in sexual intercourse outside of marriage. The Bible actually talks about 4 kinds of sex outside of a sexual relationship between a husband and a wife and God in each instance condemns it …

1) Sex with an UNMARRIED person of the opposite sex – FORNICATION, PROSTITUTION, INCEST. We don’t like using these words now do we. In most of your bibles this will be translated as the sexually immoral. We prefer the terms playing around or having a one night stand. But what ever we call it – God says that it is wrong. Lev 18:6; 1 Cor. 5:9-11; 6:9; Eph. 5:5; 1 Tim. 1:10; Heb. 12:16; 13:4; Rev. 21:8 and 22:15, Heb 13:4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.

2) Sex with a MARRIED person who is not your spouse – ADULTERY. Ex 20:14; Lev 20:12; Deut 5:18; Luke 18:11; 1 Cor. 5:1-13; 6:9; Heb. 13:4. As to Jas. 4:4

3) Sex with the SAME SEX – HOMOSEXUALITY. Lev. 18:22; 20:13 ; 1 Kin. 14:24; Rom. 1:24-27; 1 Cor 6:9, 1 Cor 6:9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders

4) Sex with ANIMALS – BESTIALITY. Lev 18:23; 20:15-16; Deut 27:21;

You see, God invented sex. He created all male’s and female’s biologically perfect for procreation and that is how He planned it. Because he designed it, he had the right to lay down the ground rules for its use. And the rules he laid down were that it was only to be practiced within the confines of a heterosexual marriage relationship.

If he had intended for different relationships, why did he not settle it in the beginning? Having 3 couples in the garden Adam and Eve, Adam and Steve, Delilah and Jezebel

God doesn’t have 2 sets of rules – one for homosexuals and one for heterosexuals. He has one set of rules which says outside of the perfect divine plan I’ve given you – 1 man & 1 women who are married – don’t play around with sex. God isn’t asking the unmarried gay man or the lesbian to do anything that he isn’t asking the unmarried straight guy or girl to do. If they aren’t in a heterosexual marriage relationship, they are called to stay sexually pure.

1 Thess 4:3-8 3 It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, 5 not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; 6 and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. 7 For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. 8 Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.

“But that is not reasonable”, say many homosexuals – “we were born this way – it is natural for us. [We’ve already debunked that myth last week – it isn’t genetic – but let’s humor their argument a bit longer. They say … It is natural for us, so isn’t it okay for us to do it.”

What are they saying? That it is not natural for a heterosexual male to want sex with a girl? You have to be joking. There is no more natural urge than for a red-blooded male to have sex with a beautiful girl and visa
versa. Our hormones drive us to that end continually. But God doesn’t make an exception for these hormone ravaged single straight men and women. He says “Sexual desire is natural for all people, but I expect
you to remain sexually pure regardless of your sexual orientation. Sex outside of marriage is wrong, so don’t do it – full-stop.” God’s law has got nothing to do with what seems natural or reasonable – it has everything to do with being obedient to God. And unfortunately many of us don’t like to do this.

So Yes – I think it does seem unreasonable to expect homosexuals to remain pure, but that is what God calls them to do, so no it is not okay to engage in homosexual sex. And similarly, it does seem unreasonable for straight guys and girls to remain sexually pure, but that is what God expects. As Christians we don’t have different standards depending on your sexual orientation – we call all unmarried people to remain pure.

And quickly, on the subject of gay marriages … Marriage was again invented by God and clearly defined by him to be 1 man and 1 woman. Marriage isn’t defined by how much two people love each other or how much they are committed to each other or that they want to have a family together. God defines it as 1 man & 1 woman leaving their parents and joining together as one forever. We have no right at all to think we can change God’s
definition of marriage and include gay marriage into the equation. To say we know better is arrogant and rebelling against God – and that is what sin is.

- Myth 4: Homosexuals can’t change

The second myth I want to talk about tonight is that homosexuals can’t change. This belief is linked to the fact that many in the homosexual lobby believe homosexuality is genetic. It isn’t as we spoke at length about last week.

There are actually 2 questions we need to answer when we talk about this myth.

1) can a person stop being a homosexual?. The simple answer is yes – of course they can.

Let me ask you a question … If you are tempted to go out and murder someone, but don’t – are you are murderer? No – you can’t be branded a murderer until you commit the act of murder. Let me ask another
question … if you had never ever told a lie and one day you were tempted to lie, but you didn’t. Could you be called a liar. No – because you didn’t commit the act of lying. Being tempted is not the same as committing the act.

Similarly - a homosexual must be defined as someone who engages in homosexual acts. You are not a homosexual if you simply have urges or thoughts and are tempted to engage in homosexual activities. The gay and lesbian lobby would argue that just having a same-sex orientation makes you a homosexual, but it doesn’t. It makes you vulnerable to becoming a homosexual, but it doesn’t define you at all. We all have thoughts about doing wrong things – that is what is called temptations. Being Tempted is not sinning. Satan uses temptation to lure us into sinning.

So if you want to stop being a homosexual, you choose to stop engaging in homosexual acts with members of the same-sex. It becomes basically a matter of will power. I have to want to change. I choose not to engage in homosexual acts. Any homosexual can do that, if they really want to. Don’t for a minute let them tell you that their hormones or desires make them act the way they do. They choose to act that way, just as you would if you went to bed with someone of the opposite sex tonight. Yes your hormones are driving you, but you choose to sleep with that person.

If you have your bible there … Please turn to 1 Cor 6:9-10. Paul is talking here to the Corinthian church. Corinth was a place that was full of immoral activity. And Paul warns them about getting involved with such activity … He writes 9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Some of the Corinthians used to be involved in immoral activity. Some were homosexuals, some were prostitutes, some were thieves, drunkards, con-artists. But they had changed. They got themselves washed – God washed their sin away. They got themselves made holy – that is what sanctified means. God made them holy and set them apart to live for him. And there was a time in the past when they repented, that they could look back to and see that they were acquitted of all their crimes. They were made righteous – that is what justification means.

So people can stop being a homosexual – it is a matter of choosing what to do and what not to do. The harder
question though is this …

2) can the predisposition to homosexuality be changed? Remember that last week we said that homosexuality wasn’t genetic, but some people will have a predisposition to a homosexual life. That doesn’t make them homosexuals, but it will make them more likely to embrace this lifestyle. Can this predisposition be changed from a same sex to a opposite sex attraction.

The answer is in some cases yes, and in some cases no. (It all Depends on the person how bad they want to change) Again the gay and lesbian lobby would argue that because this is genetic, you can’t change it. But there are plenty of ex-gays out there who testify that their predisposition has changed – either disappeared over night or gradually diminished such that it is no longer influential in their lives. And if only one of these cases is true, then the fact is that your predisposition to homosexuality can change. "Change is possible".

Flip over in your bibles to 2 Cor 5:17 - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! When we become Christians, we become new people. For some people, some of their predispositions change immediately.

Here is one person’s experience “When Communion started, there was a “knowledge” in my heart that Christ had died for me, for those very scenes that I had just seen. And as I received the body and blood of Christ, an electrifying warmth covered me, and swept through my body from my head to toes. It was an awesome feeling! I had NEVER felt so loved as I did that moment. And when I returned to my seat, I realised that for the first time in my whole life I was feeling TOTALLY accepted and clean! Everything was behind me, and I was now being given a new life in Christ! That day, during Communion, God did much more in me. He didn’t stop at washing my sins away and making me clean. He gave me much more. He totally took away the urges and attractions toward other women, and He started me off on a process of inner healing. Not only did God reconcile me to Himself through the blood of Christ, He has also brought reconciliation between my father and me. Today, God
continues to reveal the scars and reasons that I chose the life that I did, and He continues the work and healing
process within me. Today, I know I am not a “mistake”, and I am happily married to a wonderfully loving man. Wonderful are the works of the Lord! Dawn McDonald”

The healing process is ongoing for this woman, but her disposition changed immediately – that is a fantastic miracle, but unfortunately, it is not the normal way God works. If he did, no Christian would have sinful predispositions any longer. For most, their predisposition to sin is still there, but it does not control them to
the extent it once did - Paul says in Rom 8:9 that the sin nature is still there, but it doesn’t control you … 9 You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. … 12 Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation—but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. 13 For if you
live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, 14 because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

So we are new creations, who are led by God’s spirit and as a consequence are called to obey God, not our sinful desires. And this is often a daily struggle ...

like the struggle Michel Schnob has with his homosexuality
...
Like Paul, I always will need to rely on the sufficiency of God’s grace. Like Paul, day in and day out, I find myself crying out, “Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Christ Jesus our Lord!” I also know that the Word of God is truth and must be upheld, because “The Spirit of God testifies to my spirit.” I have seen the promises of God gradually being fulfilled in my life. That is the strongest evidence of the truth of Scripture and of the reality of the living Christ in me. I am also aware that a work is being done in me about which I have no control, in fact, even despite me at times.

While I still occasionally struggle with lust, I also trust that “He who has started a work in me will perfect it unto the day of Jesus Christ.” Praise God! Michel Schnob’s

Michel is seeing changes, but they were slow and gradual and he still has the predisposition to lust after other guys.

You know, this is a area many Christians struggle with. Giving your life to Jesus is not an instant panacea for all of our problems. It doesn’t just instantly get rid of all of our evil desires and predispositions to sin. But that is what we expect it to do. We expect to be perfect from then on, and we are disappointed when we aren’t.

Jesus promises that although we still are tempted and we live with our predispositions we are no longer under their control. Over time, some people lose their attraction to those of the same-sex. For others, they
continue to struggle with it for their entire lives like Paul’s thorn in the flesh. That is the story of so many of us as Christians – having a thorn in the flesh. We continue daily to need to be delivered from our tempting thoughts. Leaving the homosexual lifestyle is an easy thing to do. It is extremely difficult, just like leaving any sinful
lifestyle behind. It is only when we totally give up and say, "Lord, I can’t do it on my own", that we allow God the opportunity to come in and begin to remake our lives. The process is slow and the gay person encounters much in the way of spiritual warfare.

The enemy does not allow anyone to easily slip out of his control. But we know that Jesus will deliver us from these things, because He has already begun the change process in our lives.

A Homosexual can change and often over time God is gracious and brings healing to their broken sexuality and sexual desires.

S3 - Myth 5: Homosexuals can’t be Christians. This argument rests on the interpretation of 1 Cor 6: 9. Let me read from 1 Cor again, starting at vs 7…
7 The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? 8 Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do
this to your brothers. [Paul is blasting the Corinthian church. They were Christians, but they were fighting, involved in lawsuits, they were cheating and doing wrong. Elsewhere in 1 Corinthians we find they were practicing sexual immorality. Paul is writing to condemn this sinful behaviour and to command them to stop doing it. He continues … ] 9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord
Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Paul writes and tells the Corinthian church, what they already know … That wicked people won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Why? Because they are sinful and that sin needs to be judged. They already know that these things are wrong and that they should not be doing them. The problem was that they were doing them – possibly all of these things.

Paul confronts them and says … “you know these things are wicked, but hang on a minute once upon a time, you were classed among the wicked, but not any longer, you are part of the saved community. You were washed clean of your sins. You were set apart and made holy again by God. And you were acquitted of all charges brought against you. The logical question then is, why do you keep sinning. Paul continues straight on in vs 12 to
address some of their sin – sexual immorality.

12 “Everything is permissible for me”—but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible for me”—but I will not be mastered by anything. [These Christians were living under grace and Jesus had forgiven their sins –
past sins and future sins. Some of them were arguing that because they were already saved, it was alright to keep sinning. But Paul says – no – you do have permission to do these things, but that doesn’t mean it is beneficial for you. And then he goes on and urges them to flee from sexual immorality and their other wicked acts. Paul has to confront the same attitude in Romans 6:1 where some people believed they could go on sinning because Jesus’ forgiveness covers a multitude of sins.

Paul writes there … ] Rom 6 1-4: What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? … 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. 14 For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.

See Paul is not using 1 Cor 6:9-10 as an argument for why homosexuals can’t be Christians. This is a wrong interpretation of this verse. Paul is arguing that homosexuality, is contrary to a Christian life and should not be part of a Christian’s life. Go back to 1 Cor 5 9-11 – just a few verses before the passage we read before. Remember, Paul is condemning sin in the church … He writes 9 I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— 10 not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. 11 But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother [i.e. a Christian] but is sexually immoral or greedy,
an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.

A Christian should not be practicing homosexuality, adultery, idolatry, backstabbing, alcoholism or deception. Why? Because when we become a Christian, we become a new creature with God’s spirit living in us and this is not how God would act.

So the answer to the question, “Can a person who is practicing homosexuality be a Christian?” is yes - if they believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and have sought his forgiveness. But once they become a follower of Christ, they must endeavour with God’s help to stop sinning and live a life of purity and that includes in the area of your sexuality. Jesus told the woman caught in adultery in John 8:11 to go and sin no more.

The fact that a person is saved does not legitimise their sin. A Christian may be openly homosexual, but that is
no proof that homosexuality and Christianity are compatible. Ananias and Sapphira, in Acts 5, were believers and their lies cost them their lives. Their lies did not mean they were not Christian and their Christianity did not make their lies okay.

Homosexuals can become Christians, but that doesn’t give them a right to continue to embrace the homosexual lifestyle. That is not to say that a Christian coming out of homosexuality won’t stumble from time to time – we all
stumble and fall into sin from time to time. For those who stumble, they must be gently and compassionately helped back to their feet and pointed in the right direction again.

Help for those unsure So today we’ve added 3 things to what we’ve already said in previous weeks
-
while it may seem unreasonable to expect unmarried Homosexuals and Heterosexual to remain sexually pure, that is what God requires.- Homosexuals can change by choosing to stop sinning and then trusting in God to heal them fully. Homosexuals can be Christians, but as Christians, they need to give up their sinful life.

I know that I have not had time tonight to really address how a person can escape from the clutches of homosexuality. That is in part because it is not a quick or easy process. But I do encourage any of you who
are struggling in this area, to seek help. At the end of this post, I’ve included a list of organizations who are
set up to help people struggling with homosexuality. They have tons of great resources and courses which you can get involved in. There is also some proactive steps people can take if you or some one you know are struggling with same-sex attraction.

Some helpful Websites on homosexuality…

Organizations who can help …
Exodus - exodus.ministryone.org/
- www.exodusasiapacific.faithweb.com/
Liberty - www.libertychristianministries.org.au/
NARTH - www.narth.com/
Stonewall Revisited - www.stonewallrevisited.com/
PATH - www.pathinfo.org/
Setting Captives Free - www.settingcaptivesfree.com

Summary of research showing people can change
www.newdirection.ca/research/index.html
pathinfo.ihostsites.net/Change_Is_Real.htm

Testimonies of people who have changed
www.newdirection.ca/stories.htm
www.exodusglobalalliance.org/testimoniess17.php
www.stonewallrevisited.com/menus/pages.html

Collection of Helpful Articles
www.newdirection.ca/articles.htm
www.ministryone.org - Go to articles & Exodus
www.libertychristianministries.org.au/articles.html
www.exodusglobalalliance.org/articless1.php
www.saltshakers.org.au/html/P/9/
www.narth.com/menus/cstudies.html
www.stonewallrevisited.com/menus/issues.html
www.mygenes.co.nz/

Some proactive steps for those struggling with Same Sex Attraction
Adapted from Liberty Christian Ministries - http://www.libertychristianministries.org.au/docs/SSAppt.ppt

• Pray, pray, pray! Trust God and rely only on His strength, because only He can ultimately heal you.
• Read the Scriptures, our only offensive weapon against Satan (Ephesians 6:17).
•
Stay in fellowship in church so that you continue to stay alive in
Christ. A coal will only stay hot if it remains in the fire, therefore
get all the encouragement you can!
• Seek counseling and get
involved in a men’s support group, if available- Liberty Christian
Ministries may be able to help with this.
• Get educated on homosexuality and the healing process.
•
Be prepared to make hard sacrifices and ‘carry your cross’ (Mark
8:34-35). Giving up sex, sexual desires, and surrendering your life to
Jesus is costly, so keep in mind that it will be hard and the road
could be long.
• Develop healthy friendships with Christian of the same sex – particularly older Christian role models.
• Work on your relationship with your same sex parent and try to improve it and deal with conflicts.
•
Be accountable to other Christians such as your pastor, Bible study
leader, friends, or other leaders, about your struggles. You don’t need
to tell everyone about it but, rather, a small handful of people you
can trust. Not everyone has the ability to handle the issue so be
careful who you trust!
• Pray for discernment, that you be able to know who to trust and turn to;
• Discuss also with a counsellor and Christian leaders.
•
Don’t define yourself by your struggle - as a Christian, you are a
complete person who has his/her identity grounded in Jesus Christ. Yes,
you struggle with same-sex attraction but that’s not all you are.
•
As a child of God, you should live no longer for sin. You’ve been
bought at a price so you need to live according to the salvation to
which you were called.
• Pray, pray, pray! Give 100% of your life to God: your anxieties, your fears, your relationships, identity, temptations, etc.
• Flee sexual immorality and all circumstances where you will stumble into sin, including:
•
Work at avoiding body language that encourages temptation and unwanted
attention (e.g staring at guys, the clothes you wear, mannerisms, etc).
• Avoid the indulgence of sexual thoughts during the day.
•
Don’t think that having a boy/girl relationship is going to heal your
sexual brokenness the only way you will conquer same sex attraction
will be by the power of God:
• Don’t be fooled into thinking that
you are ever above temptation! (1 Corinthians 10:12) Remember though
that God can help you when you are tempted (1 Corinthians 10:13).
